Why You Need To Aerate Your New Lawn

Trash, Debris and Compaction
This is the front yard of a typical new home. Everything that is delivered is dumped in the front yard. This is after all the heavy dirt moving equipment has driven over it.
The Sod Base is Heavy Clay
The soil used to grow sod on is ideal for a sod farm but not your front yard. It is a very heavy black clay that is very hard to wet and once wet, it creates an almost water tight barrier that is very difficult for water, air and nutrients to penetrate.

Core Sample
This is a picture of a core sample taken from my front yard. As you can see, there is 3/4" of the heavy black clay from the sod on top of a heavy red clay base. Aeration will create pathways for the introduction of water air and nutrients to help kickstart the change to a much healthier lawn soil.
